Graceland Further Expansion Plans
Graceland recently detailed expansion plans during a community meeting for Whitehaven residents at The Guest House at Graceland.
Presently EPE and the city are in dispute as the mayor has indicated although he likes the proposal he states that Joel Wienshanker, Vice President of Graceland Holdings, is looking for taxpayer funding something the city does not want to provide.
Once of the main components to the expansion is the building of a 6,000 seat arena which received approval by the economic development board for expansion of Graceland’s public incentives to begin the next phase. However, the approval was conditioned on a guarantee there would be no conflict with noncompete provisions of the FedExForum lease to the Memphis Grizzlies. A key component of the incentives also must be approved by the City Council, County Commission and state.
On the Elvis fan and tourist perspective here are some additional key expansion points:
- 6,000 Seat Arena
- 80,000 square foot Exhibit Hall
- Expansion of the Guesthouse at Graceland
- Outlet Shopping Complex
The existing RV park will change to a parking area and a smaller RV park will be located north of the existing location. The "Lisa Marie" and Jet Star planes will get some restoration and a permanent cover which has been long overdue. The Graceland business office building will also see expansions as well. Depending on future approvals there is also plans for a manufacturing facility of collectibles and craft items and a TV production sound stage.
Also with the expansion of the Exhibition Hall the first exhibit plan for next year is a Muhammad Ali exhibit.
